This was one of those rare experiences where I was photographing a different orchid plant and happened to stay looking through the lens but turned around and this image filled my viewfinder. I held my breath, focused the petals, and clicked the image. It almost felt too easy, but when I looked at the film and realized the warmth of the colors and the commanding presence of something so delicate, I felt such deep gratitude in having seen and photographed this beauty.

I spent a month visiting one of my closest friends in Somerset, New Hampshire. She was living in a second-story red brick apartment with a wall of windows looking out to the most glorious trees, trees filled with colors of every fall hue imaginable. During my stay with her, I decided to limit myself to one roll of medium format film - 12 images - in order to stretch myself creatively. I walked out to the trees and my journey began. I found myself smiling as the most glorious oranges, yellows, and reds, filled my viewfinder. The closer I drew to each scene, the more vivid the color. I was blown away by the vibrancy and beauty as I composed each frame. To me these leaves feel as though they are singing or dancing or quite possibly both, and I feel so honored to have witnessed it.
